Untouchable is a novel by Mulk Raj Anand published in 1935. The plot of the book, Anand's first, revolves around the argument for eradicating the caste system. It depicts a day in the life of Bakha, a young "untouchable."
Train To Pakistan is a historical novel by Khushwant Singh, published in 1956. Instead of depicting the Partition in terms of only the political events surrounding it, Singh provides a human dimension which brings to the event a sense of reality, horror, and believability. It was adapted into a movie of the same name in 1998.
