Chhattisgarh Christian Body Says 25 Men Chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ Vandalised Raipur Church


A group of unidentified men reportedly attacked and vandalised a Church in Khamaridh area of of Raipur, Chhattisgarh, today. Reportedly, the mob was around 25 in number, and they beat up the visitors - around 65 - to the Church during a prayer service , leaving five injured.

Arun Pannalal, the Presidient of Chhattisgarh Chrisitian Forum, said that the attackers could be from Bajrang Dal men as they were chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’. He said the men forcefully entered the premises and vandalised it. “Attackers were chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and were making allegations of religious conversion,” Pannalal told Indian Express. "They started damaging everything and tore up the women's clothes... They also knocked down a child... When the police came, they ran away," a report by NDTV quoted Pannalal. The police have registered an FIR, against unknown men. They have also seized three motorbikes from the church premises which, they said, attackers had used to arrive at the spot. The police, however, denied that any women were harmed.
