In a chilling re-run of the Park Street rape horror, a woman was dragged into a car in the Sector V tech hub in Salt Lake around midnight on Sunday and was gang raped for over three hours inside the moving vehicle before being dumped, battered and bloodied. Police have identified leads to track down the offenders. The parallels with the Park Street rape are uncanny. The survivor, a 26-year-old singer at a bar near Kaikhali on VIP Road, about one km from the Kolkata airport, told police that she had planned to go to a cafe in Sector V after clocking out of her shift. She took an app-based cab and got off near RDB Cinemas in Salt Lake Sector V. As she was new to Kolkata, she was asking for directions when a man offered to help. But he misdirected her, the survivor told the police.

As soon as she started walking, she said she noticed that the man took out his cellphone and called someone. A few minutes later, a car suddenly pulled up in front of her and she was dragged into it by four men. The perpetrators took turns raping her in the moving car. Around 3.30am, the car came to a halt by a canal near Baisakhi in Salt Lake when the woman cracked open a window and screamed for help.

The four then panicked, threw her out and sped away. She lay on the road in agony before a taxi driver spotted her and informed police, who took her to hospital, where she is under treatment. She has bruises all over her body and is in severe trauma. A medical test has confirmed rape, say police.

A case has been registered, unlike the Park Street incident where police initially ignored the survivor's complaint and conducted the medical test four days later.
