Mumbai Police Constable Impersonates His Brother To Attend A Friend Wedding Gets Caught

This might be a case of brotherly love gone too far. It certainly went awry for two police constables, brothers, who impersonated each other to make life a bit easier. Here is what the police say happened. The older brother, Umesh Dhebe, 27, wanted to skip work to attend a pal's wedding. But he was among 400 police personnel deputed to Marol in Andheri , to help with a recruitment drive.

So he came up with a cunning plan. He asked his little brother, Ramesh, to go in his place. Ramesh wore his brother's police uniform belt that has 'Umesh Dhebe' and his buckle number embossed on it, and dutifully went to the Police Training School in Marol on April 22.

Police didn't say how or why they did, but senior officials smelt a rat and questioned Ramesh who couldn't keep up the facade. He confessed that he and his brother switched places, because Umesh 'had to attend a meeting'.

In the meanwhile, police also discovered that Umesh had in mid-April applied for a day off on April 22 and his request had been turned down. The police have initiated disciplinary action against the brothers.
