This Father’s Letter To His Daughter On Her First Day At School Is Heartwarming

"Darling, I'm sure you'll be given your own little rule book from school, a list of things to do and not to do. And we'll read that together. But I also want you to give this a once over. And decide for yourself what to take from it, if anything at all.

1. Be social. But only if you want to.

No pressure at all. If someone forces you to make friends with someone you don't want to make friends with, just walk away. It's good to talk to other people, it's good to have company. But it's also good to trust your gut. So if your gut tells you that the boy you're standing in front of will make a good friend, shake his hand. If your gut flashes warning signals, wait. There's no hurry. Take your time to open up.

2. Hear your teacher.

Hear what your teacher says. Hear what I say. Hear what Ma says. Hear what your grandparents say, hear what your friends say. Then, form your own opinion, your own understanding, and listen to only that. You don't have to listen to career advice. But you do need to hear it. Keep your eyes and ears open always, soak it all in. Then take your time to filter the useless stuff out, and the useful ones in.
