Getting something inked on your body which will last forever ain't easy. Now, tattoos might mean different things to different people, but every tattoo has a significant story.
The movement that started in 2013 had one simple idea: post photos of a semicolon drawn with markers. However, people decided to make it more permanent. The movement is now famous all over the world because of the simple sentiment: You survived.
Rahul (name changed on request), the head of a writing society in one of Delhi's top colleges, has a semicolon on his middle finger. It's an unusual spot, yes, but for him, it is a reminder of everyday that he overcame the habit of harming his fingers with blades. He admits that coming out of the closet was tough for him, but living a double life was making everything even tougher. It drove him to self-harm and it is only now that looking at his tattoo makes him realize that it wasn't the end of the world.
