Dayko, 4, was a rescue dog who worked relentlessly to find survivors after the Ecuador earthquake. The brave dog helped save seven lives by sniffing out survivors with his team, that otherwise wouldn't have succeeded in the task.

Despite several efforts to save Dayko's life, the dog couldn't be saved. The news of his passing away was announced on Facebook by the fire service.

The post said,

"We regret to inform you that today the [fire service] is in mourning because [we] just lost Dayko who participated in the work of searching in Pedernales, the dog with national and international certifications, passed away in hours In the morning [sic].

"This four-legged friend gave his life in the line of duty. Thank you Dayko for your heroic efforts in Pedernales and in various emergencies where you were present.

"You held high the name of the K9 unit."

Rest in peace, little guy.
