If you, like so many others, have tried and failed miserably to sip your McFlurry, and still wonder about the hollow space in your spoon, then this one's for you. The hollow things are actually spoons and not straws. The greatest mystery however remains why they are like that. However, Tumblr user The Waiting Palatypus came to our rescue. An engineering major and ex-McDonald's employee explains why those spoons are the way they are. That little square end at the tip of your spoon is what they attach to the stirring machine. Here's how it's done.

"As someone who worked at Mcdonald’s I can tell you that: we fill the cup with ice cream, we dump the oreos on top, we stick the spoon in, we put the entire thing in a machine and use the spoon to stir your Mcflurry."
