Established in 1969, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) is the space agency of the Indian Government. It is managed by the Department of Space which reports to the Prime Minister of India. And after the successful MOM mission, ISRO has something for everyone to be proud of.. once again! ISRO is launching PSLV-C28, its ‘heaviest’ commercial mission, which will orbit five British satellites. It will be launched in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle will be launched at 9:58 AM today (July 10) from the space port of Sriharikota, which is 90 kilometers away from Chennai. Overall lift-off mass of the satellite is 1440 kg, making it the ‘heaviest’ commercial mission. The countdown was cleared yesterday by The Mission Readiness Review Committee and Launch Authorisation Board. It will launch three DMC3 satellites which are identical. The three identical DMC3 satellites will be launched into a 647 km Sun-Synchronous Orbit (SSO) This will take place using the high-end version of PSLV-XL. Besides these three two auxiliary satellites will also be launched – CBNT-1 and De-OrbitSail. Both of them are technology demonstrator satellites. These five satellites can image any target on the Earth’s surface. In addition to that, it has major applications like surveying the resources on Earth, monitoring disasters and managing Urban infrastructure.
