Police Register FIR Against Makers Of Freedom 251 For Cheating, Forgery & Misleading The Common Man

Noida Police have registered an FIR against mobile manufacturer Ringing Bells, the company behind the world's cheapest smartphone Freedom 251. The case has been registered based on a complaint by BJP MP Kirit Somaiya. Police have booked company promoter Mohit Goel and president Ashok Chaddha under IPC Section 420 and others. The charges against them include cheating, forgery and misleading the common men, small investors and people of India by campaign of its product Freedom 251 smartphone.

The complaint further reads that the company had raised funds by issuing misleading advertisement in leading newspapers, playing with words such a Make in India project of PM Narendra Modi. "Tricolour was also being abused in the advertisement to misguide the buyers."

Ringing Bells shot into limelight last month with the announcement of its first product, Freedom 251, a smartphone priced at just 251. It had managed to get almost 7.35 crore pre-bookings for the device.

However questions were raised immediately about the company's claims of selling the phone at that price.

Even the company started interdicting their own claims within days.
