Seven Booked For Gangrape Near Murthal In Haryana On Delhi Woman’s Complaint

Even as authorities are trying to clear the air around horrifying reports of gangrapes in Murthal during the Jat quota agitation, a woman from Delhi's Narela area filed a complaint, based on which seven people have been booked for alleged gangrape near Murthal. Although a senior police officer did not confirm that the incident was linked to the Murthal gangrapes, the woman called the helpline of the all women SIT set up to investigate sexual assault on ten women commuters in Haryana's Sonepat district on February 22, Hindustan Times reports said. According to the police, the complainant said that she could identify all seven accused including her brother-in-law, they said in a report by The New Indian Express that, "She complained that she was travelling from Haridwar when her bus broke down near Murthal. She said she boarded a van (taxi) in which other people, including women, were also travelling. However, the van was stopped by some people, who pulled them out and gang raped her in the fields." At first the Haryana government and police denied that any gang rape occurred, but later an all woman SIT was set up under DIG Rajshree Singh's leadership.
