Audi’s R8 supercar may be the more drool-worthy, but the TT sportscar is by far the more practical and accessible of the two. And with this new TT RS variant, performance isn’t a problem either. If it is a problem, it's for the R8! With a 0-100 time of 3.7 seconds, a well driven TT RS can probably keep up with the flagship Audi. Ouch! And the reason for that is the new 400 horse power engine.

In car circles, they say there’s no replacement for displacement. While that is true in most cases, Audi doesn’t seem to agree. How else do you explain a measly 2.5-litre capacity five cylinder engine producing a mind boggling 400 horse power? Science helps, of course. There’s direct fuel injection coupled with a turbocharger to push more air and fuel mixture into the cylinders. Here it is in all it's glory. Note the RS badge.

Utilising all that power is the famed Quattro four-wheel drive system which has won Audi a number of rally wins. It sends power down to all four wheels which gives the car a lot of traction and makes it more stable going around bends. Also there’s a seven speed dual clutch gearbox that gives the TT RS a limited top speed of 250 km/h, although Audi is happy to de-restrict the car to 280 km/h.
