World Second Largest Diamond Just Got Sold For A Mind-Boggling $63 Million Dollars

The world's second largest diamond, 'the Constellation', an 813 carat rough diamond, has been sold at a mind-boggling price of $63 million dollars. Lucara has partnered with Dubai based rough diamond company Nemesis International DMCC, and retains a 10% interest in the net profit received from the sale of the resultant polished diamonds. This is the highest price achieved for the sale of a rough diamond.

The diamond is roughly 407 times the size of the average US engagement ring, was mined from Lucara's "Karowe" mine in Botswana in late November of last year. With the sale of 'the Constellation' there is a possibility that world’s largest diamond, the tennis ball-sized Lesedi la Rona will go on auction at Sotheby’s London on June 29. Last November, Canadian Lucara Diamond Corporation had discovered three exceptional diamonds discovered at its mine in Botswana. Along with the Lesedi la Rona and the Constellation, a 374 carat white diamond was also mined.
