A signature says a lot about you. There are some people who can even study your signature and tell you a lot about your personality. Fascinating, isn’t it? Maybe that’s why this 33-year-old Australian man, Jared Hyams, decided to have a signature that stands out.

For the last five years, he has been marking his bank bills, his id cards and other official documents with this illustrious doodle as his signature. Many do not share his love for quirky doodles and it results in inconvenience. Yet Jared Hyams refuse to give up and continues his battles.

Moreover, to understand the legal implications that his action may involve and to be able to stand for himself in the cases against him for the same, Hyams has also enrolled himself for a law degree. His degree will be completed this year. (Well, at least, something good came out of it)

Hyams feels, “It sparked something in me, I didn’t understand if these people were offended or had taken it personally.”

According to him, “What a signature is comes down to the function, not the actual form. Generally, it’s a person putting a mark on a piece of paper by their own hand. As soon as you start defining what a signature is you run into problems – if it’s meant to be someone’s name how do we define that because most signatures are just illegible scribble.”

Well, that is a legit argument according to me, however, the Australian government (of course) doesn’t think the same. Jared has been dismissed twice from the court on the claims that his case was borderline on the contempt of court and he was simply wasting court’s time over his ‘useless scribbles.’

Jared Hyams, however, has his hopes high and he has continued his legal battle. Despite facing several problems, he continues to use this signature on his library card, student id card, medical reports and several other places.

Upon being asked about his learning from all of this, he told media, “It’s been an interesting journey,” Mr. Hyams said. “But none of it is resolved. Everything is just left hanging.”
