I think the misconception that all new or part-time musicians are desperate strugglers walking around with guitars strapped to their backs, looking for someone, anyone, to give them one teeny tiny opportunity to display their talent, needs to die.

Who’s going to pay for production costs, rent and equipment, buddy? Not you, for sure. You just want an act for the night. What have you got to lose, right? I say, try going without your salary for a while. Then you'll know.


Sure, musicians want to promote and sell their work just like anyone else. But does that mean having to do so without any returns? Whatever happened to the good, old concept of give-and-take?


I mean, seriously, is the worth of an individual’s creativity derived from a free gig?
No. No. NO.
