In 2009, two seven year old girls were being forced to marry with frogs in an attempt to prevent the outbreak of mysterious diseases in their village. The girls – Vigneswari and Masiakanni – were dressed up in traditional bridal dress, gilded with gold and sareers to make it look like any other marriage in India. (Source)
Karnamoni Handsa, a nine year old tribal girl from east India was forced to marry a stray dog in yet another attempt to ward off an “evil spell†on her, according to which she had a tooth rooted to her upper gum which is considered as a bad omen in her Santhal Tribe. The girl was then later got a divorce with the dog to allow her to marry again with a man. (Source)
