Little did we know, that in most of the instances, most of our leaders make speeches keeping in mind multiple outcomes. So, for example, if you are a coach of your school cricket team, you are going to prepare two speeches – one, if you win, and another if you lose. Many such speeches have been made, but very few of them have been declassified because in many situations they can be embarrassing too. But some of them show incredible courage too. Take a look. The speech America kept ready if their moon mission failed and astronauts would be stranded on Moon. Remember how the movie The Martian ended? The astronaut was rescued and brought back to earth. So good of NASA and the American government to do that. The same cannot be said of the Nixon administration that was present during the first mission to the moon. Back then, president Nixon had a speech ready, if somehow the American astronauts didn’t make it back from the moon; or in short, if they were stranded there. There would be no dramatic rescue mission, only a sad speech declaring that the two astronauts gave up their life for space exploration.



If the World War 2 would have been lost, US president Eisenhower made a speech to take the blame

The turning point of World War 2 is known to be the Normandy beach invasion. Also known as D-day, it is very efficiently dramatized in the popular movie Saving Private Ryan.

But the Americans did think that they may not successfully execute the mission on that fateful day. So, the then president, Major General Eisenhower made a speech that if a loss happens, it is to be attributed only to him.

The full note read as –

“Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based on the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery and devotion to duty could do.

If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone.”

Needless to day, the D-day went as planned and the movie about it won multiple Oscars.

The speech that would have been given if Hitler would have been killed successfully

The movie Valkyrie was not a fictional work. There was an actual plot hatched to assassinate Hitler multiple times during his reign.

The closest they came to killing him was when they planted a bomb in one of the high-level bunker meetings in his secret military base.

Carl Friedrich Goerdeler, who was going to be the political successor to Hitler had prepared a speech in the event that Hitler was successfully killed. But this speech never saw the light of the day and everyone in this operation were killed in the next two days. The number of officers and people involved killed was 5000.

The speech read as:–

“We would not be worthy of our fathers, we would earn the contempt of our children if we lacked the courage to do everything, everything conceivable, to avert the terrible peril and to achieve self-respect once more. Over and over, Hitler has violated the oath given to the people ten years ago. He has done so by violating the law, human and divine. Therefore no soldier, no official, not a single citizen is bound to him by oath any longer.”
