Monsoons Just Around The Corner Above Average Rainfall To Bring Relief To Drought Hit Areas

The relief from the acute summer and drought across the country could be just around the corner. The monsoon, which majority of India is pitching their hopes to recover from the two deficit seasons which devastated the agriculture and economy of states like Maharashtra, UP, Odisha AP and Telangan could arrive in the southern central India by second half of June.

Due to the severe shortage of rainfall and subsequently lack of irrigation water across the country, there was a huge shortfall in agricultural production in last two years. But with a favourable season predicted, the rains should bring a much needed lifeline to the farming sector.

The south western monsoon season in the country starts in June and ends in September and delivers nearly 70% of annual rains and waters half of India’s farmlands that lack irrigation facilities. It is also considered a crucial lifeline for the country's large agriculture sector.
