Being the sister of the bride is an important job, probably one of the most important during a wedding. The bride's sister is supposed to be the family's rock, the one person who knows everything. But she's human too and needs a helping hand now and then. So if your sister is getting married soon, you need to know a few things. It's not going to be all rose petals and laughter. It's also going to be whole lot of thorns and cursing. But it's your sister's wedding and you love her. Yes, you do. Don't deny it. No, you can't run away and come back when it's all over. It's time to get to work.

You will be expected to accompany the bride on all shopping trips. All. Don't even think of trying to get out of them. Who cares whether you like shopping, or hate it intensely? In everything you do, you have to follow the basic motto of every wedding – the bride comes before anything else. That goes for clothes too. If you're excited about picking up new clothes for the wedding and have the look all planned out, stop. It's not going to happen until the bride is happy with her clothes.

As the sister of the bride, you will also be master of the plan B. And C, D, E and F. If some guest is being really cribby about the hotel, it might be easier to just dump them elsewhere rather than listen to their pointless rant. If the parlour doesn't open on time, you have to plan a back-up parlour. If the make-up artist doesn't arrive on time, your makeup skills will be required to save the day.
