The rotting carcass of a dolphin was spotted off the Worli coast on Saturday morning by locals. The carcass measured around two metres in length and weighed around 145-150 kg. The mammal is believed to have died at least 9-10 days ago in the deep sea.

The carcass, which was discovered with more than 90 per cent of its skin peeled off, was sent for necropsy to determine the cause of death.

This is the second case of beaching reported in Maharashtra this month. The body of a 24-feet-long whale shark was found in the waters near Palghar, in Thane on March 4.
