746 More Indian Names Crop Up In the Panama Leaks More People From Smaller Towns In The Frey

In a new instalment of Panama leaks, the new links of 746 Indians (people, companies and intermediaries) have surfaced out of nearly 2.14 lakh entities which involve 3.6 lakh names released recently by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). The new lot of names is in addition to 1200 Indians who were exposed in the 2013 Offshore Leak Expose. The latest releases have come in the wake of worldwide criticism that ICIJ and its collaborative institutions are releasing the papers in bits and pieces through some selective media organisations. It has also faced flake for keeping most of 11.5 million leaked files of Panama-based firm Mossack Fonesca secret and inaccessible.

That’s why this time, the released names and addresses are in searchable form and are accompanied by graphic diagrams showcasing links between companies, intermediaries and named persons.

If reports are to be believed some of the accounts are active whereas many others are reported as closed and inactive.

While releasing the database, ICIJ said: "...Not disclosing raw documents or personal information en masse. The database contains a great deal of information about company owners, proxies and intermediaries in secrecy jurisdictions, but it doesn't disclose bank accounts, email exchanges and financial transactions in the documents."
