Vít Jedlička has set up the world's youngest country called Liberland - or more officially known as the Free Republic of Liberland - on the banks of the river Danube where a flag of the new nation proudly flies. A no man's land between Croatia and Serbia, Liberland lay unclaimed until the self-proclaimed 'president' Vit Jedlička decided to make it his own in 2015. He decided to convert the disputed territory into the world's newest country where people can smoke marijuana, pay taxes 'voluntarily', own guns, and enjoy as minimum as just five laws. As long as they don't kill anyone!

One year on since he first pitched the idea to media houses and governments - who brushed it aside as a joke - Jedlička says that a hostile revolt may be on its way to take over the land.

In an exclusive interview with The Independent, Jedlička said that even though he has been granted support by political parties and movements, the Croatian police is doing its best to prevent the 4,00,000 potential inhabitants wishing to take up base in their new home.

Seen below with the members of his government, the president is certain that the Liberlanders will soon put up a stronger force that will eventually break through the police blockade and there will be "nothing they can do to stop it".

Jedlička told The Independent:

"We needed one more year to discover everything we have to do in order to take proper care of our own borders, to sign an agreement with a private security agency and also to visualise what we want to do.

"We kind of appreciate what Croatia is doing at this stage, which is simply protecting our border from others who would like this territory as well."

The takeover is likely to take place this coming summer. Jedlička said:

"We are confident, we will make it across the border. Take a look at how refugees are crossing borders so easily now. There is nothing that will stop 5,000 people from crossing the border."

It's not the first time someone has envisioned the creation of a new country. However, all we can hope for is that everything goes smoothly with Liberland. God knows the world doesn't need another conflict on its plate.
