Ask the one thing that people find the most irritating in their day-to-day lives. We are sure being stuck in traffic jams will be on the top of that list. Thankfully, Google has decided to alleviate a little of our woes by introducing real time traffic updates for Google Maps .Yes, it has finally come to India! In a blog post, Google announced that it has updated Maps which will give you traffic alerts to help you avoid jams. Not only that, it will also suggest the best possible route for its users so you can reach your destination without delay. The feature will be available to both Android as well as iOS users.

So, how will it work? Sanket Gupta, product manager, Google Maps, further explains:

Now when you input your destination, you’ll get a spoken alert for upcoming traffic conditions that helps you identify the quickest route. While you’re on the road, Google Maps will give you a heads up if congestion lies ahead, and how long you’ll be stuck in a jam. You’ll also get the option to take alternate routes, including explanations for why one is recommended—whether it’s the fastest or just avoids traffic.

You just need to remember one small thing

You have to ensure that you've turned on navigation mode of your Android or iOS mobile to be able to receive these traffic-related alerts on Google Maps automatically.

The traffic alerts feature was first rolled in the US back in May last year, and is now being expanded to more markets including India. And that's such a huge relief!
