Hundreds Of Dead Fish Surface In Bengaluru Hebbal Lake

Hundreds of dead fish surfaced at Hebbal Lake on Sunday morning, bringing back images of a similar fish kill in Ulsoor Lake a couple of months ago. The lake which covers an area of 150-odd acres in north Bengaluru is quite popular with bird watchers. Environmentalist Vijay Nishanth who visited the spot on Monday morning confirmed the news. "Hundreds of fish have already been cleared. However, one can clearly spot many more dead fish floating in the lake's periphery. This must be the result of direct flow of sewage into the waterbody," said Vijay.

Polluted water bodies have resulted in many instances of fish kills in recent months. While residents living in the vicinity of Hebbal Lake have been repeatedly complaining about a stormwater drain polluting the water body, civic bodies have paid little heed. An unbearable stench engulfs the area and the flow of sewage into the lake is there for all to see.
