In This MP Village You Cant Buy Vegetables Or Get A Haircut, If You Dont Have A Toilet At Home

You may or may not like PM Narendra Modi but you have to accept that his Swachh Bharat Mission has changed the way people participated in a state-sponsored drive. And now we have this village from MP which is taking the fight to open defecation bigtime. We are talking about the Bhuteda village in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam district which is using innovative social ways to force people to discontinue with open defecation and get toilets made at their homes. According to Hindustan Times's Shruti Tomar, Progressive residents of the village have decided to cut-off essential supplies and services to fellow villagers who refuse to build and use a toilet at their homes; starting with veggies and haircuts! The vegetable vendor in the vilage, Dhuribai and the hamlet's only barber Amaru Lal Sen have joined the initiative launched by one Lokesh Sharma.

“I had attended a training session of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan a few days ago. I discussed with the villagers that open defecation is not only a bad habit but can also have a negative impact on health. After this, the villagers decided to take several initiatives,”Lokesh told the reporter.

“Whenever a person who defecates in the open comes to my shop, I humbly refuse to give him a shave or give him and his family members a haircut. But I also tell him that if he constructs a toilet in his house and starts using it, I will give free service on the first visit to my saloon,” Sen adds.

The people who are running this intiative also roam around the village in mornings and stop people from open defecation. They have also promised social boycott of families who fail to fall in line by March 16, by when the village aims to be 100 per cent open-defecation free.
