A Florida-based brewery, Saltwater Brewery, has introduced a range of six-pack rings which are as durable as the plastic counterparts that have been used for years, but are not harmful to animals or to marine life.

The rings are made of barley and wheat and are fit for human as well as animal consumption.

Private companies have been ruing the fact that it is the consumers who need to dispose off the rings in a responsible manner. In the tussle between companies that continue to manufacture these rings and the consumers who discard them without any thought, the plastic rings have been finding their way to the ocean and wreaking havoc on marine life.

Reports on animals dying of plastic as well as being gravely injured are not uncommon anywhere in the world, including India.

The latest range of beer from Saltwater Brewery is being offered at a price higher than the regular packs to incorporate the cost of the six-pack rings. The company hopes that the consumers will not mind paying slightly more for the benefit of animals.
