Wrestler Parveen Rana To Replace Narsingh Yadav In Men’s Freestyle At Rio Olympics


After wrestler Narsingh Yadav tested positive for banned anabolic steroid methandienone, the Indian Olympic Association has decided to go with Parveen Rana as India's replacement at 74kg in men’s freestyle, said United World Wrestling. Freestyle wrestler, Rana had earlier won a gold medal in the 74kg category at the Dave Schultz Memorial wrestling tournament in USA in 2014 also secured gold in 70kg category at International Wrestling Tournament. Sports Minister Vijay Goel had informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that Yadav has been provisionally suspended and if there is no new development, he will not be able to participate in the Rio Olympics.

Although it has to noted here that if the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) finds Yadav innocent, he will be back. Yadav has alleged that a SAI official was part of the "conspiracy" to frame him even as the national federation threw its weight firmly behind him. A day after it was revealed that Narsingh and his roommate Sandeep Yadav had failed the dope test, the Wrestling Federation of India stood by the wrestler, insisting that a conspiracy was at play to stop him from going to Rio.
