Prime Minister Narendra Modi scrapped the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes from November 8 midnight making the existing currency absolutely useless. However, one can go and exchange it in banks and post offices for new currency. In addition, the government also declared that cash deposits above Rs 2.5 lakh will be scrutinised and 200 per cent penalty will be levied in case of a mismatch in income.

According to a Times of India report, a sweeper Shantabai Ovhal (58) in Pune who’s a Pune conservancy worker was sweeping the street around Law College road and found a bag with 52 Rs 1000 notes. She immediately called her senior Khandu Kasbe to inform the same. The two decided to hand it over to the police and went to Prabhat Road police station where they gave the bag to sub-inspector Shilpa Lambe

“As usual, I walked down Law College Road and started sweeping the lane. At 7am, I found the bag near a spot where people generally throw their garbage. I checked the bag and found the currency notes. At present, there is much hue and cry about the old currency notes, so I decided to call my senior officer,”
