For 4 Years Army Might Have Lied About The Inferior Jackets Given To Siachen Jawans

According to documents accessed by CNN-News18 show, the Indian army was aware that soldiers posted at Siachen Glacier received inferior Three-layer snow suits procured from a Sri Lankan company in 2012, and did nothing about it. The company, Rain Wear Pvt Ltd, reportedly cheated India of 28,000 USD over this procurement contract, according to a whistleblower former Rain Wear employee, who claims to have provided emails, letters and reports.

He wrote to the entire defence ministry top brass, revealing how the second layer green fabric in the snow suit was not windproof and waterproof, making it fatal for soldiers. While the glacier can easily reach minus 50 and even 60 degrees Celsius, the snow suit fabric could only withstand -15 degrees in Europe. And, there’s a clear difference in the material shown during bidding, and the fabric actually used

Despite the issue coming to light, the government has reportedly not acted on the matter. The whistleblower also claimed that there was a threat to his life after the expose. He even claimed that the PMO rejected the allegation this January this year.
