At a time when JNU is been battered with allegations after allegations, the university has managed to outshine hundreds of other universities across India in the fields of research and innovation. JNU has won two of the three Visitor's Awards that had been instituted by President Pranab Mukherjee last year. While JNU bagged the awards in the fields of innovation and research, Tezpur University in Assam received the Best University award for academic excellence and overall performance.

The awards will be presented by President Mukherjee on Monday.

The recognition comes at a time when the prestigious university has come under heavy criticism over the Afzal Guru event.

While a lot of people on social media used #ShutdownJNU to vent their anger many others including senior BJP leaders had criticized that the university had failed to produce any notable research in many years.

Some even went on to make absurd claims like JNU students used 3000 condoms every day and dance naked on campus.
