Newly Discovered Jurassic Fossil Site In Argentina Runs For A Massive 60,000 Square Kilometers!

A huge Jurassic-era fossil site has been discovered in Argentina. The discovery was announced by paleontologists in a report that was published in a journal, Ameghiniana. The site that spans across 60,000 kilometers is located in Patagonia, southern Argentina. And it is home to a wide diversity of Jurassic fossils that are nearly 140 to 160 million years old.

The investigation, led by Garcia Massini, revealed the site to be nearly exposed towards the surface owing to a recent erosion.

Garcia said, "You can see the landscape as it appeared in the Jurassic -- how thermal waters, lakes and streams as well as plants and other parts of the ecosystem were distributed." The team also discovered "a wide range of micro and macro-organisms."

The fossils were preserved almost immediately and the rocks are so fresh that they may lead to an entire series of new discoveries.
