The artificial intelligence sent into the Fukushima Nuclear Reactor to assess nuclear damage and locate nuclear fuel have "died", according to reports from Reuters.
The fuel rods inside the nuclear plant pose a huge threat, but unfortunately no one knows where they are and how they might be removed. The high amount of radiation inside the buildings is the biggest obstacle and makes it difficult for humans to access it.
Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), which owns the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant, has been developing robots which can swim under water and negotiate obstacles in damaged tunnels and piping to search for the melted fuel rods. Unfortunately, as soon as the robots get close the reactors, the radiation destroys their wiring, making them dysfunctional and obsolete.
