Sindhu’s Rs 50 Crore Deal With Management Company Is Highest Ever For A Non-Cricket Player

PV Sindhu became the first Indian badminton player to win a silver medal at the Olympics and the rewards have been pouring in - the latest of which is a three-year deal with sports management company Baseline, which could be up to a whopping Rs 50 crore. This makes the deal the highest in Indian sports history for a non-cricket player - showing the nation that success in other sport can also make you rich and get endorsements. A Times of India report quotes Baseline co-founder Tuhin Mishra, saying that Sindhu's "soaring popularity" was the reason the deal was sealed. "The value she brings to women power" was the other factor. Baseline will take care of Sindhu's brand profiling and endorsements - and while 16 companies are said to be keen on Sindhu endorsing their products, Mishra informed the newspaper that she was close to signing with nine already: said she is in the final stages of signing with nine. "Ever since Sindhu returned from the Olympics, so many people have been approaching her. In the last few days we've had intense discussion on whom to endorse. So far we have finalised nine companies. Maybe by the end of next week we will be signing with them. As for the rest, we are yet to take a decision," Mishra said. But the most heartening fact is how she has refused to endorse any product which can be detrimental to the youth - just like her coach Pullela Gopichand, who did not endorse any Cola brands in his heyday. Sindhu is guaranteed a certain fee in the deal, and also earn more depending on the deals she signs.
