Many households in India do not get fresh drinking water and people have to walk a long way to get it. The Eliodomestico designed by Italian industrial designer Gabriele Diamanti is a simple device that can convert salt water into fresh drinking water which is run on solar power.

Eco-friendly and portable, the device does not require any kind of electric power. Diamanti designed it for people in underdeveloped and developing countries who are in dire need of potable water. Hence the machine does not require any operating cost. The only raw material required is sea water.

Compared to a coffee maker which has been turned upside down, the Eliodomestico works when salt water is poured into the container during the day. The heat from the sun causes the steam pressure to build up which sends it down a tight nozzle leading to a water tight boiler at the bottom. The steam condenses again to give fresh potable water.
